The North Laine used to be chocked full of abattoirs feeding the appetites of London via the train line and the streets of the area were said to be blood-stained and run with rivers of red…this was said to be one such abattoir but there is also a ‘missing’ site of a smelting factory for city ironwork and some wonder if this was on this site too, its size being advantageous to such an activity. Can anyone give the definitive on this?
